Here We Go...

My name is Erika Sandstedt and I’m so excited you found this page!  Not only will you learn about the trials and tears of a first time marathoner, but most importantly  you will learn about the amazing work the Children’s Treehouse Foundation is doing for children and families touched by the burden of cancer all over the world.

To me, running 26.2 miles sounds long and arduous.  However, I’m told the things I will learn about myself are priceless.  I do know that it is difficult to cope when a parent has cancer - it can be scary, isolating, and emotionally intense.  I wish this program would have been available when my family experienced the profound loss of my father in 1980 from lung cancer.   I was 11, my sister was 16, and my mother only 43.

You might find yourself saying, “This looks nice, but what makes it different?   Why should I give to this foundation?"

The work of the Children’s Treehouse Foundation is needed more than ever.  We believe that the services we offer fill a critical care gap between parents who have been diagnosed with cancer and the often overlooked emotional needs of their children.

In the United States, the American Cancer Society estimates that more than 367,000 parents with children under 18 will be diagnosed with invasive cancer each year.

For the children, more than 700,000 of them, this permanently changes the family dynamics, evoking in the children many fears, doubts and questions about their future and that of their parents.

Children’s Treehouse is located right here in Denver.  Please take a minute to review our website to learn more about professional trainings and programming.

Through sponsoring this run, your generous donation will play a vital role in helping support parents and children whose lives have been impacted by cancer.  Thank you in advance for your generous support!

Erika
